Helping Patients Make Progress

I enjoy seeing and treating all different diagnoses and conditions. I worked at a skilled nursing facility for about two and a half years, and have experience working with the geriatric population and those with chronic neurological conditions such as stroke and Parkinson’s disease. My favorite part of the job is when progress becomes noticeable for the patient. It’s rewarding as a therapist when patients are able to return to an activity pain-free or do something they haven’t done in months or even years.

From Personal Training to PT

I have a background as a personal trainer, and I enjoy any type of exercise! I’ve competed in a few road races and triathlons, but lately, I’ve been enjoying more weightlifting. I got into physical therapy not by being injured, like many in my profession, but because of my interest in fitness and personal training. With personal training, I felt somewhat limited in my capacity to help clients. I wanted to further my knowledge in terms of working with the body. I knew that people had the ability to change their bodies through my experience as a personal trainer, but I wanted to go beyond that to help people recover from injury and live better.

Patient Tip

I think it’s important for patients to remember that a physical therapy session is only a short increment of time out of the day or week. What the patient does outside of therapy is even more important. Little habits add up throughout the week. While we guide the patient through each session, it’s important to carry that knowledge into daily life and activities outside of therapy.

After I experienced repair surgery for total Achilles tendon rupture, Catalyst brought me back to the world of the walking and helped me fully recover. Within one year I was able to complete the San Antonio Half marathon. I couldn’t have done it without their expert care and consistent encouragement to stretch, exercise and be consistent with the recovery plan. Thanks Catalyst I couldn’t have logged the rigorous number of training miles without you. Keep up the good work.
